It’s Xmas Cards!

Now there is no excuse for being late with your Christmas Cards this year, whether you have to send overseas or just have lots of them to do or like so many people are super busy and just don't have time to do them yourself! Well now is your chance to do a personalised card in a snap and get those Christmas cards out in time for sea mail or just done in time for Christmas. I have two different sizes for you to use. 4×6 for postcard size cards which is what I normally make. It is so easy to just get them printed down at your local photo lab, throw in a Christmas letter and print out your yearly Christmas labels, envelope and you are done! The 4×8 size is great for business sized envelopes and great for home printing. Print them as a card or postcard, I have used both methods.

Anyway here are my It's Christmas Ploppers in two different size options. I hope you find something suitable for doing your Christmas Cards this year.

Have you tried Printing labels?

I have a lot of cards to send and hand writing all the addresses would give me a serious case of RSI even if I didn't have Arthritis in my hands, so I enter all my addresses in a database which I keep up to date during the year. Keeping it up to date as you get new addresses saves a lot of headache at the end of the year when you have to find your great aunts new address or check whether anyone has moved. I do try and keep them up to date, but you never know when Mum knows and I don't! icon smile Its Xmas Cards!

If you don't have a database program you can even use a spreadsheet to export and print your labels or another easy way is to have it ready to print in a word document. My Mum uses this method and it is super easy and less complicated than maintaining a database. If you can use word, you can maintain a few pages of labels. Avery also have templates for word, the Word Avery Template wizard and they have other great products to make your label printing easy. Unistat also have software to help make label printing easy.

I really want to keep all my addresses in outlook, which I do, I just wish Microsoft would make it easier to export them. The export option exports every field, most of which you don't use.. so you have to clean up the export before you can use it. I did find this program by Code Two which helps you to export your chosen fields.

One advantage of using a database or spreadsheet for your labels, is that you can use mail merge to personalise all those Christmas letters. Dear Julie and John sounds so much better than Dear Friends & Family. There are many tutorials on the web on how to mail merge in your chosen programs, here is one for merging your data in Excel with your document in Word. It sounds overwhelming at first, but once you get it worked out it is so much easier and faster than hand typing all those names on each Christmas letter.

I also have stickers made up with our address and phone number on them so everyone always gets our up to date address and number every year. I had clear ones made so it looks good on any colour envelope. If you have them made in bulk they can be quite reasonably priced. In a pinch I have printed our return address on labels when I was out of my address stickers. If you can be bothered fussing with your printer you can print your addresses directly on your envelopes, but I have found it fiddly and fraught with paper jams. Unless you have a printer that prints on envelopes really well, I wouldn't recommend this method. It does however most definitely look better and is cheaper, providing paper jams don't wreck too many envelopes!

Don't be afraid to get out those digital scrapbook graphics to decorate and personalise your Christmas letters, I love nothing better than digging through my digital scrapbook supplies for my letter decorations. It makes writing the letter so much fun, and I think more fun to read as well.
